The church was built in 1887 on a 1 and 1/2 acre lot donated by Johan Willemsen. This was the first Episcopal Church building, being built before the yellow fever epidemic stopped work on the Methodist-Episcopal church at Manatee. The bell for the church weighted 889 pounds and was cast in France. The bell was donated by George Murray Barney.
