He graduated from DePaul University in 1891, then studied homeopathic and alopathic medicine at Rush Medical College in Chicago. He graduated from Rush in 1896. He began his medical practice in Brazil, Indiana in 1897 and in 1898 married Myrtia Wilder. Many Indiana people came to Bradenton for the winter in the early 1900s. Many stayeda at the Manavista hotel and there were seasonal reunions and Brazil-parties. In 1913, Dr. and Mrs. Hollingsworth moved to Bradenton and the Doctor opened an office in the old Murphy Building. Later he moved to the city's first skyscraper, the Professional Building. During World War I he served with the U.S. Army Medical Corps, in which he attained the rank of Major. He returned to Bradenton after the war, where he had a home on Sixth Avenue and Twentieth Street. He was a member of the Florida State Board of Medical Examiners. For many years the only X-Ray machine in the area was Dr. Hollingsworth's machine. In his later career, most of his work was with radiology. He became the second president of the Bradenton Country Club and served a term as president of the Bradenton Kiwanis Club. He was elected president of the Manatee County Medical Society three times, in 1936, 1939 and 1944. Dr. Hollingsworth even worked as physician to the St. Louis Cardinals during their spring training seasons in Bradenton. From 1942 to 1945 he was county school physician and from 1945 to 1953 he was clinic physician for the county's health department. He died in 1958.
