(A note on the Christine Roof Hospital: Christine Roof was the daughter of real estate developer D.R. Roof, who was also a partner in Bradenton's Sharp and Roof Real Estate Company. In 1922 she suffered acute appendicitis. Even though Larrabee Hospital was in Bradenton, the girl was taken by boat to Tampa. She died on the trip to Tampa and in her memory, Mr Roof built a fifty bed hospital at 43rd Street West and Manatee Avenue, equipped as the first "modern" hospital in the area.)
