I earnestly hope all the children will take a deep interest and pride in the Home Journal. It is a sad duty to perform the recording of the death of a parent, especially one so kind good and near perfect as He was. Yet it swells my heart full of gratitude to God, that nothing but good deeds ca be recorded of Him; and we are ever thankful that this was the greatest of all blessings capable of bestowel upon the children of man. To say that He was a devout Christian and follower of God, scarcely expresses the zeal He mainifested at all times; from my earliest recollection he began struggling with me, to keep me out of sin and the many temptations I was drifing into. It pains me often to think of the heedless manner in which I neglected his advice and commands and broke the many promises I made him of obedience and good behavior.
