Built by John Hodler, a Swiss man and a retired cabinet maker for the Pullman Company of Chicago. He made much of the elaborate woodwork in the Pullman railroad cars of the 1880s and 1890s. Retired here, he built the Le Chalet, the Hodler House, as a guest house.
