He did his post-gradugate studies in Chicago. He practiced in Georgia from 1891 to 1916, when he moved to Clearwater. In Atlanta he owned and operated the Field Sanitarium and in Marietta he was the personal physician to the Tate Marble Company family. Field married Miss Georgia Heard in 1893, but she died in 1916. He later married Mary Hunton, an accomplished musician. He came to Bradenton in 1920. During the great Florida Land Boom of the 1920s, he speculated in land, making a great paper profit but no cash. He was a Mason and a member of Kiwanis. He began his practice in the horse and buggy days of house calls and continued serving the needy and ill. At his death in 1938, he was a beloved member of the community.
