Jack Taylor, Jr. He was a Florida native who had managed the Palmetto State Farmers Wholesale Market, built by the WPA in 1937, during the Great Depression. Jack managed the vegetable auctions as auctioneer and in 1945 became manager. It was Jack who had the idea of just pouring tomatoes into corrugated cardboard boxes for shipping, rather than individually wrapping each one. Peter Fulton, a tomato buyer, and Jack Taylor both had stalls in the market where they traded on their own accounts.
