This is a picture from the era after each library typed it's own hard-copy 3" by 5" catalog cards and before most libraries used computer-only databases. With this terminal she could order the correct library catalog cards to be shipped for the new books they were processing. The printer, partially seen on her left, was for printing labels to paste on the books spines and pockets.
