He came to Manatee County in 1923 and became a banker, businessman and a farmer in the Terra Ceia area. He belonged to the First Methodist Church and served on the Manatee County School Board for 12 years. He was president of the Manatee County Growers Association and was a director of the Exchange Supply Company, an affiliate of the Florida Citrus Exchange. He was manager of Wilson and Toomer Fertilizer Company of Palmetto. He combined banking with agriculture as president of the Bradenton National Farm Loan Association in the 1930s. From 1945 to 1970 he was a director of the Federal Land Bank of Wauchula. From 1942 through 1972 he was a director of the Manatee National Bank (originally the Manatee Bank and Trust, it later merged with Southeast Bank.) In 1962, school authorities thanked him for 35 years of work supporting the schools by naming an elementary school after him. In 1964, he was named Manatee County's Outstanding Citizen. Prine died in 1973 at age 84.The Robert H. Prine Elementary School was built in 1962 on 17 acres of land, and was originally to be known as the Windsor Park School. It was a neighborhood school with 25% minority students in 2002. Roland T. Montanus was principal from 1969 until sometime after 1984. In 1984 Montanus was age 50, a natife of Wisconson and had taught in Illinois and Sarasota before coming to Prine School. He married a former DeSoto Queen, Susan Husted, in 1963. In 1984 the school had 675 students and 47 teachers in 21 regular classrooms and 11 portable classrooms. The area from which the children came ws, by then, full of duplex housing. The school suffered from high turnover as families of students moved often. Philip Joachim was principal from 1990 until 2002, 11+ years. During the 1980s and 1990s, the school concentrated on building the basics of education, concentrating on the fundamentls, especially reading. By 2002, the school had participated in the "Reading is Fun-damental" program for 23 years. The program distributed free books to children three times each year and by 1984 they had given out over 10,000 books. In 2001 and 2002, students at Prine checked out more than 63,000 school library books in the course of the school year. Prine school maintains a tutuorial program for migrant children. In 2002, there were 800 students, still served by the original 1960s kitchen, lunchroom and building. The air conditioner, as well at the original building, was in need of updating.
