South, at Leesburg in January. Lula took his place as assistant Post Master. During the year we have made some improvements, painted the store and our home, fitted up the 2nd story of the store and rented it to the Masonic Fraternity at about $5.00 per month. At the farm we planted about 100 orange trees all of which are doing well. Our valuable old mule "Kate" through our neglect died of lockjaw. We replaced her by a small mare purchased from an emigrant of Mo. of whom at the time we purchased a large fine milk cow with calf. the cow did not live but a short time. Paid $50. for cow and calf.
